About Us
The Mt. Beulah Missionary Baptist Church was organized on May 11, 1971, under the leadership Of Rev. L. H. Bell, Sr. Mt. Beulah was organized in the Christ Zion Water Tower Baptist Church, with the Pastor, Rev. Samuel F. Rabun, acting as moderator. The Church was organized with (23) members. In organizing, there were several names offered, the group of (23), voted unanimously, to name the Church, Mount Beulah; this name was offered by our present Pastor, Rev. E G. Shields, Sr. Mount Beulah did not have a church home, so they worshiped with the Christ Zion Tower Church for one month. The Lord led our late Pastor, Rev. L.H. Bell, Sr., to 5209 Lillian Avenue (pictured below),where we marched in on July 11, 1971. This was truly a day to remember. Our late Pastor, Rev. L.H. Bell, Sr., accomplished much in one year at Mount Beulah. The Church became a chartered member of the Missouri Progressive Missionary Baptist State Convention. Before Rev. Bell's health began to fail, he would always say, "if anything should happen to me, Go Get Shields. "
When his health failed and the Lord saw fit to call him home to rest on March 13,1972. Rev. Bell's request was honored and on the 1st Sunday in May 1972; Rev. E G. Shields, Sr. Began his pastorate.
The Lord ordained the work of our new Leader, in the person of Pastor E.G. Shields, Sr., and under his leadership our membership grew to over six hundred. In 1972, we began what has become our Annual Summer Youth Program. This program provides a "safe haven" and employment to keep youth away from the dangerous streets during the summer months.
We were blessed on November 17, 1972, we purchased our church property at 5209 Lillian. With a 1st and 2nd deed of trust. We paid off the 2nd deed of trust one year later on November 19, 1973. On July 12, 1975; our Pastor saw the need for a Baptismal Pool; the church paid for it on that day. On October 18, 1974, we became charter members of the Missouri State Camp Development. On May 23, 1980, the mortgage was paid in full.
As the church continued to grow…there was a need for a larger sanctuary…so the search was on. After an extensive search and much prayer; we acquired our present church property. On July 14, 1985, Dr. E G. Shields, Sr., led the Mount Beulah Baptist Church from 5209 Lillian Avenue to 7823 Racine Drive (formerly Hanley Hills Baptist Church).
Our present location (pictured below) has a seating capacity of approximately 1200 persons, and Executive Broad Room, as well as a three- (3) story Educational Building, with a modern Kitchen and dining area. This complex also consists of an Early Childhood Education Ministry. The Early Childhood program operates under the name Mt. Beulah Christian Academy that was birthed in July of 1985. The Rev. Bobby L. Shields served as the Director and worked hard to build a strong Christian Daycare Academy. After several years of successful work he left to advance his career as a teacher and principle in the Public School System. At that time Rev. E.G. Shields, Jr., was appointed by the pastor as the Administrator of the Mount Beulah Christian Academy. He has broadened the vision and scope of the Academy to include: Abeka Book Curriculum, Computer Literacy Training, Before and After School Care, Director, Receptionist, Janitor and several Classroom Teachers.
In November of 2005, Rev. E. G. Shields, Jr. was appointed by the pastor and elected by the church as Co Pastor of the Mount Beulah M. B. Church.
